How might similarities and differences in genetic codes, or the proteins built as a result of these codes, be used to determine how closely related different species are?

Genetic codes are responsible for building proteins a good example would be INSULIN which is a protein in humans is derived from a particular genetic code sequence and we as HUMANS by that i mean YOU AND I both have insulin that helps regulate our glucose this is of course makes us similar but i cant tell for sure if the genetic code responsible for this protein is similar in all of us.since insulin is derived from INSULIN=PROINSULIN+C PEPTIDE i think insulin is insulin for genetic code responsible for our physical appearances(phenotype) it is of course clear that the genetic code responsible for this differs in humans and in CHIMPAZEES. the main idea is code = protein and we are made up of so much protein.infact almost all of our hormones are protein substances and so as a result we most likely are similar if we all have the same hormones and only differ in terms of phenotype and also sometimes mutations may cause a difference in the resultant protein.
