question?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
hold on let me find problem this may take a minute
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i need to graph and find the three points for the equation 3x-y=2
OpenStudy (anonymous):
my question is 2y=3x+11 i have to graph it but i dont know how
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i also need step by step instructions on how to do this so it can help me with more problems just like this

Ok. Just a second.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok
OpenStudy (anonymous):
first put it into the form y=mx+b
what do you have to do to get the y all by itself?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok i put it into y=mx+b form and i have y=mx+b which equals
2=3x+11
OpenStudy (anonymous):
y has to be ALL by itself, you need to divide both sides of the equation by 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):
you need to get Y by itself
OpenStudy (anonymous):
how can i divide 3x+11 by 2
OpenStudy (anonymous):
y = (3 x)/2+11/2
x = 2 x+1, y = 3 x+7,
y = 1/2 (3 x+11)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
when you divide 3x+11 by 2 you get fractions or decimals. That is allowed.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
3/2 and 11/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok puahina got y=1/2(3x+11) what does that equal cause i suck at that kind of math
OpenStudy (anonymous):
would i do 1/2*3+11 and then try to find x or is 1/2*3+11 the right answer
OpenStudy (anonymous):
^kaitlin has it
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes but i have to graph this with three points
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so now you have y=mx+b

mertsji i alredy know that
OpenStudy (anonymous):
where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
1/2*3+11 is the answer.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
it's hard to explain when everyone types at once.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok how would i mark 5.5 when the graph i have will only let me do whole numbers

it wont let me put a dot inbetween two lines
OpenStudy (anonymous):
oh, then you have to find points with integer coordinates.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok so i estimate it and get 6 right
OpenStudy (anonymous):
no. what you do is go one unit to the left or right and one and a half units up or down
OpenStudy (anonymous):
according to the slope

peter i cant do halves on this graph that i am using
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Heres a graph that you can use.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
up or down 1 and a half from 5 and a half gives you 4 or 7.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok puahina the point for -2 goes on the x axis
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i know have -2,0 and 0,1

OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes we m ust be
OpenStudy (anonymous):
my graph looks nothing like yours mertsj
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i dont i tripled checked
OpenStudy (anonymous):
these are the points i have -4,-1 -2,0 and 0,1

Yeah his graph is correct.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
thank you puahina finally some one who understands me
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Your Welcome.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
I make sure my answers are right before I just post them.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
this is what i got

OpenStudy (anonymous):
puahina does my graph look right to you
OpenStudy (anonymous):
mertsj attach a picture of whta your graph looks like
OpenStudy (anonymous):
whats that suppose to mean
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Yes it does. @Mertsj what does your equation equal to?

OpenStudy (anonymous):
No not u. Mertsj
OpenStudy (anonymous):
But he left.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yeah he did he probably went crying to his mommy
OpenStudy (anonymous):
shoot my points were incorrect i knew i should have trusted mertsj

ok new question -4y=-5x-18
OpenStudy (anonymous):
im sorry mertsj i shoulld've trusted tyou
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i know i put the equation in y=mx+b form
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok if i put this equation in y=mx+b form i would get 4=-5x-18
OpenStudy (anonymous):
You only had your line a little off. Mistakes happen, Its my fault too though i just realized i wasnt even looking at YOUR graph. :( your next question should look like this.

is that a positive 6 and a negative 4 puahina
OpenStudy (anonymous):
hey mertsj leave her alone its not her fault
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok i have my first point which is 0,-3
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok i have my second point which is -3,0
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Its a negetive 4. My line was just a little long.

ok so
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so i think i found my other point not for sure but i think it is -4,1
OpenStudy (anonymous):
this is what i got
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i dont know if my graph is right
OpenStudy (anonymous):
It looks right compared to mine.

OpenStudy (anonymous):
puahina my graph looks nothing like yours maybe you or me missed something
OpenStudy (anonymous):
and thats the same graph you posted for the last question

Its not the same one the last one had 10 and 5 on the X axis. And they look differnt but its just because Your Y axis and X axis is just in a different position then mine but they both equal the same. I attached the last graph i did so yiu can see the difference between the one i just posted.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok lets just say this i dont know whos graph is right
OpenStudy (anonymous):
my graph was wrong
OpenStudy (anonymous):
new question -x-2y=-10
OpenStudy (anonymous):
add -2y to both sides
it cancels out on the left side
now you have -x=-10+2y
Still Need Help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):
now add -10 to both sides it cancels out on the right you
now have this equation -x+10=2y
OpenStudy (anonymous):
now you need to get rid of that two,
so divide all the numbers in there by two
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Heres the graph.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok the 10 is right on your graph puahina but the other dot i dont know what it is
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok know the 5 is right
