Rationalise 0.001 (where bar is on 001)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ZeHanz i have one pblm that in second step why i have to mutily it with1000

OpenStudy (zehanz):

Now I understand what you mean: 1000x = 1.001001001001001001.... x = 0.001001001001001001.... ------------------------------- - 999x = 1, so x = ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but y we multiply it with 1000

OpenStudy (zehanz):

By multiplying with 1000, we get a number that has exactly the same decimals as the original one, only it is 1000 tims bigger. When we subtract the original number from the larger one, all the (same) decimals vanish, and we have left 999 tims the original number, which is equal to 1. So this number, x = 1/999

OpenStudy (zehanz):

If you had this: 0.12341234123412341234.... you would have to multiply with 10000 to get the same effect!

k but can we say that bar is on three numbers that's why we multiply it with 1000

OpenStudy (zehanz):

Yes, that's the reason!
