OpenStudy (maeganr):

5n^2+7n-6

OpenStudy (maeganr):

@erdog82 @kelliegirl33

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(n + 2)(5n - 3)

OpenStudy (maeganr):

@kelliegirl33 How do you get that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Its kinda hard to explain....do you know about the foil method ?

OpenStudy (maeganr):

Yeah but I like area models better.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The way I do it is kinda like the reverse of the foil method... but you do understand the foil method, right ?

OpenStudy (maeganr):

Yeah

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am having a very hard time explaining this...let me get somebody here to explain this....hold on..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jim_thompson5910 ....can you help ?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

one way is to first multiply 5 and -6 (first and last terms) to get -30 then find two numbers that multiply to -30 and add to 7 these two numbers are 10 and -3

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so you break 7n into 10n - 3n and you factor by grouping

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

5n^2+7n-6 5n^2+10n-3n-6 (5n^2+10n)+(-3n-6) 5n(n+2)+(-3n-6) 5n(n+2)-3(n+2) (5n-3)(n+2) This means 5n^2+7n-6 factors to (5n-3)(n+2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I told you he was good....he is a God send :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@MaeganR ...do you understand

OpenStudy (maeganr):

Thanks(:

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
