What powers electrons in their orbit, it seems to me they would slow down over time and stop moving and that would distroy the atom

They can't slow down. Even though the electron are moving in an elliptical orbit and might be expected to be emitting electromagnetic radiation which would cause them lose energy , they can't because there is no place for them to go. The energy of the electrons in an atom are quantized that is they have a fixed discrete values and here is only one electron allowed per energy state. In a normal unexcited atom all the lowest electron energy states are all filled up so they can't go anywhere.
