suppose you are working at a particle collider (such as the large hadron collider, where a new particle was discovered last year). Your data indicates that momentum of the particles going into the collision chamber does not equal the data of the particles exiting the collision chamber. If you are confident that the data is correct, and you believe that momentum must ultimately be conserved, what must you conclude?

i guess you discovered a new particle..

or that a particle or particles that you could not measure were created.
