What is the next term in the following sequence? -32, -16, -8, ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is a geometric series of common ratio "1/2" keep "halving"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

THANK U

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

It is a horrible question. There are infinitely many CORRECT answers to this question. You have ASSUMED that it is geometric based on only 3 terms. That is a very risky business.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@tkhunny true.. but this one seemed more plausible. the wording of the question seems quite fundamental type

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

@electrokid You cannot define "more plausible". You're left only to guess. It is a horrible problem statement and this type of question should disappear from the face of the Earth. There are ways to approach pattern recognition AND write a good problem statement. There is no need to write a horrible problem statement at any level. I have strong opinions on this matter. Can you tell? ;-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes. we all know that 'know'. remember your high-school teachers? (no offence to to anybody in particular)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if the problem was anymore complicated than this, the asker would have thought twice, of might not even have asked, just tried till he died

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Here's a good question. What is the next term in the following geometric sequence? -32, -16, -8, ... Here's a good question. What might be the next term in the following sequence? Justify your answer. -32, -16, -8, ... It's just not that hard to write a good question.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@tkhunny anyways, for such discussions, we need an audience and everybody armed with pen-swords

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@tkhunny you say that. But how many of the askers make sense of the equations they put in the question? seldom sombody uses the tools provided here.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Some wish to learn. May as well teach them correct principles. My views. I welcome others'.
