Simplify the product. (x - 4)(x + 3) A. x2 - 7x - 12 B. x2 + x - 12 C. x2 - x - 12 D. x2 - 12x - 1
what is x times x? what is x times 3? what is -4 times x? what is -4 times 3?
huh?
this is called the FOIL method you take the first term you have in the first parenthesis...and multiply it by EVERY term in the 2nd parenthesis..... after that you take your second term in the first parenthesis...and multiply THAT by EVERY term in the second parenthesis... as I have asked above
so you take x.....(first number in first parenthesis) and multiply it by both x....and then 3 (the terms in the second parenthesis)
i have no idea how to do any of this but hold on while i try and figure it out.
it's no problem :) like I was saying before.... you take your 1st term in the first ( ) you have...in your case....this is "x" and you multiply it by each term in the second ( ) you have....in your case...you multiply it by x....and then by 3 so x times x.....this equals x² and x times 3....this is 3x
see where I was going with that?
C. x^2 - x - 12
you take x-4 and multiply it to (x+3)?
....you take the first term of (x - 4) ..which is ...you multiply THAT to (x + 3) after you do this you take that -4....that you havent used yet...and multiply THAT to (x + 3)
after "which is" was supposed to be "x"
