Solve 5x2 = –45x

OpenStudy (kropot72):

Is this it? \[5x ^{2}=-45x\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Solve x2 = 14x – 49

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and that was it

OpenStudy (kropot72):

Do you want me to help you to solve these step by step?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I already got the first one

OpenStudy (kropot72):

\[x ^{2}=14x-49\] First step is to bring the terms on the right hand side to the left hand side. Can you do that, being careful with the signs?

OpenStudy (kropot72):

@BMI229 Are you there?

OpenStudy (kropot72):

\[x ^{2}=14x-49\] First subtract 14x from both sides \[x ^{2}-14x=14x-14x-49\] The terms in x on the right hand side cancel so we now have \[x ^{2}-14x=-49\ ................(1)\] and effectively we have moved 14x to the left hand side (with a change of sign). Can you add 49 to both sides of equation (1) ?

OpenStudy (kropot72):

@BMI229 Are you still there?
