whats an observation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It is what you see before, after, and during and experiment.

the input of information to out senses

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is easy for an observer to define an observation in that sense but the actual observation is when any object interacts with anything other than itself. so even in absence of any conscious being, an object can actually be observed by the environment. this definition of observation is necessay at quantum levels.

I don't necessarily agree. For example, two objects might interact and the result would be that their states were "entangled" or correlated but still in a superposition of states. This means the value that would be measured is uncertain, even after the objects interact. Later, after a measurement happens, then the measured value would be known better. There is still not total agreement on what is measurement, and related issues, I have read. It is called the measurement problem. There is something called quantum coherence. There is even large scale quantum phenomenon. Maybe there is more to this issue then scrapface22 let on.

yes i do believe there is, thanks LikeLightning. you do know what Occam's razor is... your definition is much more explicit and correct, which is a good thing but in most of the cases these special cases does not occur.
