OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

How would I go about factoring 128x^3 - 98x ? thanks so much! :) I medal people ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Pull out what's in common! :)

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

Step by step instructions, thx :)

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

nothing's in common

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

try ;P

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

omg they'res NO common factor

OpenStudy (kfujioka):

x is a common factor, there's a start...

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

yeah I already removed x THEN what ?

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

I devided by x

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

I heard in this type of polynomial prob you have to root both but thats impossible for the second one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 2x(8x-7)(8x+7)

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

so ?

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

oh, so the answer is (8x-7)(8x+7)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The answer is 2x(8x-7)(8x+7)

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

they seem to want it in the format of (8x - 7)(8x + 7) Thanks for explainig :3

OpenStudy (kfujioka):

Something's off. To clarify, sfb is right. 2x MUST to be included, unless the original problem was to factor an equation with the polynomial set to 0 (?).

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

ya well IDK they want it in that format!

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

they say kinda I think in the instructions to root, but that deosn't work ?? please help thx

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do they want you to find the zeros of that problem?

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

0s ? nah they say FACTOR COMPLETELY

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

they want it in (1x-1)(1x+1) kinda format see ?

OpenStudy (kfujioka):

then sfb's answer is what you're looking for, but you need to include the factor of 2x

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

they dont want it in that format!

OpenStudy (kfujioka):

Can you write the original problem down completely? If it just says, factor this polynomial completely ... , then sfb's answer is completely correct and there's no way around it. Maybe there's something that is being asked for that we're overlooking though.

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

thats all it says they want it in (1x-1)(1x+1) kinda format see ?

OpenStudy (kfujioka):

then I'd say that sfb's answer maintains that format, with a factor of 2x thrown in there.

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

thx! :D
