The rapid growth of the human population during the last two centuries is INDIRECTLY responsible for which environmental concern, that in turn, will lead to future species extinction? A) ozone depletion B) habitat fragmentation C) decreased biodiversity D) fossil fuel consumption

OpenStudy (blues):

OK, again this is a multiple choice question so if you're not sure, you should start by eliminating options that you know are not correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm pretty sure it's neither A nor D...

OpenStudy (blues):

Agreed. Leaving two options. There are two parts to this question. The first is that the right answer is indirectly caused by human influence. And the second is that the right answer will result in reductions in species number. They will both lead to reductions in species number - loss of habitat by reducing the resources available to animals and isolating populations of them, and decreased biodiversity by making them more susceptible to things like diseases. So the question is, which of the two is caused by indirect human influence?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Decreased biodiversity because it's just making them more susceptible to things such as disease, but not directly giving them the disease, right?

OpenStudy (blues):

Precisely. I agree. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, great! Thanks. I have two more questions though, then I think I'm set. Is that okay?

OpenStudy (blues):

I'll see how long I can stay. I might have to go soon though. Best post new questions in new threads...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, I'll make a new thread.
