Does the equation represent a direct variation? If so, find the constant of variation. 5x = -3y A. no B. yes; k = -5/3 C. yes; k = 5/3 D. yes; k = 3/5

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

If "x varies directly with y", one must be able to write "x = ky" for a suitable k. Can you write your equation in that form?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=5-3y?

OpenStudy (aravindg):

Hi welcome to Openstudy !!

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

How did you get that? 5x = -3y That '5' is attached to the 'x' by multiplication. You cannot use addition or subtraction to remove it. Try division.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\(x={-3\over5}y\implies x\propto y\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you can have it similarly in the other way \[y={5\over-3}x\implies y\propto x\] so, x and y are linearly proportional to one another

@momo1234 kapeesh?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh yeah i get it now thank you

welcome
