Meiosis produces 4 daughter cells that allow for genetic variation- meaning that the daughter cells will vary somewhat from the parent cell in genetic composition. This is because the diploid chromosome number is reduced to haploid- so each daughter cell inherits ½ the chromosome number of the parent cell. This life-cycled chart illustrates the haplontic life-cycle. Notice what happens after meiosis: So in short: yes, meiosis produces four haploid sex cells once it's completed.
