How do you find the value of a power with fraction exponents?!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if the fractional exponent takes the form of (n/m), then m is the "index" of the radical, n is what the term is raised to. For example, x^(1/2) is actually the square root of x (the 2 is the index, but usually hidden in the case of 2), and then raised to the power of 1.

thanks!

you are welcome

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what exactly is a radical?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the symbol you normally see for the root of something, like a square root (but it can be cube root, etc.). I'll put a pic up in a moment.

\[\sqrt{x}\]
