OpenStudy (anonymous):

what happens to the protein molecule, once the enzyme has become denatured? What is denatured?

OpenStudy (dean.shyy):

Denaturation occurs when the protein dismantles itself and becomes altered to a different state of being useless. So, when a DNA becomes denatured, it becomes useless.

OpenStudy (dean.shyy):

Additionally, denaturation of more complex proteins would be more complicated than that of DNA. Some complex proteins might require an extreme level of denaturation. That is why denaturation of complex proteins might still keep the select complex protein in question intact, and still capable of specific or select functions.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the protein will also become useless? :S

OpenStudy (dean.shyy):

Maybe...Depends on the protein and the level of denaturation. Usually, the protein will have an altered state with no or limited functions available to it. For example, when you cook an egg, the protein that was once liquid, turns white and becomes a solid.

oooh okay, thanks :):)
