Monica has a jewelry box of earrings. This box contains 7 pairs of plain gold earrings, 5 pairs of gold earrings with diamonds, 2 pairs of plain silver earrings, and 5 pairs of silver earrings with diamonds. If she picks a pair of earrings at random from the box, what is the probability that she picks a pair with diamonds?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You first have to count and see how many earrings she has in total

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then, count how many diamond earrings she has

And then, put the number of diamond earrings over the total number of earrings she has in all

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To figure out which the probability of diamond earrings being picked depends on how many rings in total are in the box, and also on the number of DIAMOND earrings in the box. So it looks like there's 10 pairs of earrings with diamonds, and 19 earrings in total. So the probability of diamond earrings being picked are 10/19.
