Please help! What do plants need to take in and release to survive? Thanks!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, plants need to photosynthesize, which means that they take in CARBON and WATER and SUNLIGHT (as the energy needed for the conversion) and produce OXYGEN and GLUCOSE. However, they use up most of the glucose as their food, so the main thing that they release is OXYGEN, which is the byproduct of photosynthesis. (They don't need it, so they just release it into the atmosphere.) Does that make sense?

Sunlight, water, and nutrients from the soil.

*When I said "CARBON" above, I meant "CARBON DIOXIDE." Minor fix sorry.
