Reasons why Eastern and Western Rome split up? Anyone know?

OpenStudy (wach):

The Roman empire was huge - too huge for one ruler, Theodosius, to control. There was simply no way he could watch over every city / village in Rome and control the people in it - most of whom had been conquered.

Is that the main reason, I though it was something between churches?

OpenStudy (wach):

Oh yeah. Hang on.

OpenStudy (wach):

So basically the state religion of the Empire was paganism - ie Roman mythology. I'm sure you've heard of the many goddesses and gods - like Venus, Mercury, etc. Anyways, the emperor of Rome was considered divine or holy, and this was one of the reasons people listened to him and were under his control. Then, Christianity started growing in popularity as a religion. First, people were prosecuted for being Christian - a monotheistic / one-god religion and not what the state wanted. Then, Constantine, the current ruler, became a christian and made it the state religion. So he was no longer considered godlike. Also, a lot of people weren't used to the change, and these things made the empire unstable.

OpenStudy (wach):

So then, Constantine split the empire in half.

Aiight thanks man. really needed it.
