OpenStudy (charlotte123):

How many degrees in polynomial: 1. 8a – 5 2. 6x^2 3. 18x^2 + 5ab – 6y

OpenStudy (jpsmarinho):

What you think for each one?

OpenStudy (jpsmarinho):

??

OpenStudy (aripotta):

you were right on your other post @charlotte123 :]

OpenStudy (charlotte123):

really? :D @aripotta

OpenStudy (aripotta):

yes :] it's 1, 2, 2

OpenStudy (charlotte123):

@jpsmarinho I was thinking for 8a – 5 it would be 1 degree, for 6x^2 it would be 2 and for the 18x^2 + 5ab – 6y it would be 2 :)

OpenStudy (jpsmarinho):

It`s right. For a polynomial with single variable, you have the degree equals to the term with higher exponent. Example: xˆ2 + 3x +xˆ5 degree is 5 for the polynomial but in the case of a multivariable polynomial ( the last you wrote) the degree is the higher sum of exponents in one term. Example: abc + abˆ3cˆ2 + aˆ5bˆ2cˆ2 degree is 9! ^^

OpenStudy (charlotte123):

so Im right? :D @jpsmarinho

OpenStudy (jpsmarinho):

yep. I'm not true if yep is correct. I know that nope is. ^^ (I'm brazilian)

OpenStudy (charlotte123):

@jpsmarinho hurray :D and ya said it correctly ;3 THANKS FOR ALL UR HELP TO THE BOTH OF U :D

OpenStudy (jpsmarinho):

you're welcome!
