Is 18 a hypotenuse or half of it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think it is the hypotenuse

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Pythagorean theorem. The tangent here is just showing that B is a right angle, therefore implying the usage of Pythagorean theorem. This is the theorem: A^2+B^2=C^2. 18 is your hypotenuse (C), 24 is your leg (A). Line CB is your second leg (B). 24^2+B^2=18^2 576+B^2=324 Subtract 576 to 324. 576+B^2=324 -576 -576 ----------------- 0 +B^2=252 Square root B^2 and 252. Now yeah your'e going to get a negative number because somehow your hypotenuse is longer than a leg, which is just weird. So you're going to ignore that negative in -252 Because you can't have a negative measurement and a negative in a radical (it becomes "imaginary"). You're left with 6sqrt(7), assuming that your numbers are correct.

oh wow thank you soo soo much :)

No problem.

I'd appreciate a "Best Response!" Hahah. :)
