I'm only just starting Spanish. Can someone explain to me the difference between Ser and estar?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ser is usually for permanent things estar is generally for temporary things

Lucinda13 is right. We use SER when..... - we're talking about names - we're talking about personalities - we're describing characteristics - we're talking about dates, and times You know. Permanent things. ~~~~~~~~~~ On the other hand, we use ESTAR when we're talking about temporary things, like when.... - we're talking about emotions - we're talking about locations - we're talking about states of being - we're talking about something that is happening, in the moment
