Why was the Manhattan Project kept top secret? (5 points) The United States did not want Great Britain or France to know that it had nuclear technology. No one was sure if the atom bomb would actually ever work and they didn't want negative feedback. The Allies were afraid that the technology would be stolen by spies belonging to Germany or Japan. The United States was developing the technology illegally and with stolen technology and materials.

The atomic bomb was tested before the actual bombings that occurred in Japan. It was called " the gadget " and was set off in Los Alamos , New Mexico on July 16, 1945. It was such a big explosion that even people that lived 120 miles away could see the " big flash ".Even the " father of the atomic bomb ", ecstatic about the success of the project, quoted , " I have become death ." So you see, they were pretty positive that it would work. Therefore, B is not your answer.
oops..." the father of the atomic bomb " is J. Robert Oppenheimer.
