Given the following triangle, solve for the missing side

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's a right angle triangle, so wat are the first two things that pop into ur head when u see a right angle triangle?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ummmm :/ i know nothing of this i forgot it all

OpenStudy (anonymous):

pythagromus theorem, \[c ^{2}=b ^{2}+a ^{2}\] and Trigonometry SohCahToa. Do you remember these formulas? and i advice that u never forget these, they r extremly important!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wat kind of mat are u doing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

algerbra 2 :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u know those two formulas? @gnungaray616

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3.56 ? is the answer yeah i seen that formula before

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:/ hm,mmmm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so back to my two formulas :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeahhh lol show me how to do it pleaseee :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so when dealing with right angle triangles u normally use either of the formulas. when given an angle or u need to solve an angle then u would use trigonometry.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but since u r given only sides and u dont need to solve for any angle then we will use pythagromus theorem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so given that c is the hypothenus and a or b r any of the other sides, i want u to plug in the values given and let me see if u did it right :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4.6^2 +3.5^2 =c^2 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4.6 is c so it would be a^2 +3.5^2 =4.6^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so now solve for a :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1.24?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a^2 +3.5^2 =4.6^2 a^2 = 4.6^2- 3.5^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u got that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8.91 when i input that in my calculator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

very close! but u forgot that a^2 = 8.91 but not a ;) so now wat do u do to get a?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

divide ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i keep getting 54.57

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you solve it but show me step by step how you do it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which missing side do u want me to solve?
