Is the graph of y=2x-5/x+7 a translation of the graph of an inverse variation? Explain.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can an inverse exist for the given function?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I do not think so. But if you do, could you enter the inverse of that function?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh. I mixed things up, no it cant.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

also, for inverse variation, if x increases, "y" should decrease and vice-versa.. for this function, that does not seem to be happening.. can we use calculus (derivatives) to explain this?
