What is the solution of...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know how to separate it into two inequalities since there is an absolute value on the second term?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@whatisthequestion no not really

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay do you understand what the absolute value does?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@kevincourtes please respond

OpenStudy (anonymous):

absolute value takes the positive and the negative sign. for example \[\left| x \right|<2 \rightarrow -2<x<2\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@whatisthequestion yes i understand

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in your case, \[-18\le3x-3\le18\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Lynncake okay so you solve for x now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have a small issue withe my dog right now .... so I am going to sign off and let her take over now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

add 3, −18≤3x−3≤18 |_________|______| -18+3≤3x-3+3≤18+3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Lynncake ohh okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you got it @kevincourtes ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Lynncake i got -5 x 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Lynncake the last answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep, that's right :) never give up :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Lynncake what about something like this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

simplify by dividing 4 and 6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Lynncake you get -5 for the first and 8 for the second

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x>-5 and x<8 right? which is x is greater than -5 and x is less than 8 to combine this, you get -5<x<8 which is the same thing as "x is greater than -5 and x is less than 8"
