Is there a website that could graph these for me? If not, can someone walk me though them? I fan and medal! how is the graph of y= -2x²-5 different from the graph of y=-2x²

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I'm sure there are tons of websites that can graph, but I recommend downloading geogebra since it's a very versatile graphing tool I use all the time http://www.geogebra.org/cms/

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

if you can't download and install programs, then you can try these online only tools http://www.wolframalpha.com/ http://my.hrw.com/math06_07/nsmedia/tools/Graph_Calculator/graphCalc.html http://www.meta-calculator.com/online/ and I'm sure there are tons of others out there too

Thanks!

thanks @Luis_Rivera

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Luis_Rivera, you forgot about the square exponent

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so the graphs should be parabolas and not lines

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Would that change the answer?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

not really, you're still shifting down 5 units just the overall shape will change, but the fundamental idea or transformation will not

ok thanks
