The sides of a rectangle are in a 3:4 ratio. What is the length of the shorter sides of the rectangle if its perimeter is 42 cm?

ah still having problems with ratios, so any ideas?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@HawkCrimson its algebra 2 now, but i dont have a clue what the answer would be

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok since the sides have a ratio of 3:4 im assuming that 3 is the shorter side and 4 is the longer side

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@HawkCrimson i just googled it, its 9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@HawkCrimson thanks man

OpenStudy (anonymous):

xD yep, do u know y though?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The length of the shorter side of the rectangle is 9. The longer side of the rectangle is 12. 9:12 = 3:4. The perimeter of a rectangle is usually calculated as s +s +s +s. 9 +9 +12 +12 = 42.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@HawkCrimson its like simlifying 9/12, 9/3=3, 12/3=4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i did it differently but yea both r right though in this way it seemed like u were given the the shorter side was 9 from the start which u werent but ok :)
