Is this where I post French 2 language questions? I have a test tomorrow and can't figure out these practice questions: Remplace le nom par un pronom: Je n'aime pas manger une salade le soir. Answer: Je n'aime pas la manger le soir. ( ????) Remplace les noms par les pronoms: Ces immigrants viennent de l'Algérie. Answer: I have no idea Remplace par un pronom: Est-ce qu'ils prendront beaucoup de temps? Remplace par un pronom: Il a fallu lire cinq livres pour la classe.

First, is the part that has to be replaced by a pronoun underlined in your original textbook? Second: it seems all these questions are about the use of the personal pronoun "en", that is used to replace an indirect object normally introduced by de/du. Example: Il vient de Paris => Il en vient. Je joue de la guitare => J'en joue. It also works when de/du is the equivalent of "some/any" uncountable. Est-ce que tu as du pain ? => Est-ce que tu en as ? - Oui, j'en ai. And also when it means "some/any" countable, but then you need to add a number in the answer and sometimes in the question. Est-ce que tu as une voiture ? => Est-ce que tu en as (une) ? - Oui, j'en ai une. Est-ce que tu as des frères ? => Est-ce que tu en as ? => Oui, j'en ai deux. Hope this helps you answer your questions.

I still don't understand... Also no, it just says "Remplace le nom par un pronom."

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Would the first question, "Je n'aime pas manger une salade le soir." be "Je n'en aime pas manger le soir." ??

OpenStudy (vincent-lyon.fr):

90% Correct The difficult thing is to insert the "en" in the right place. You would need to write : Je n'aime pas en manger le soir. or even better : Je n'aime pas en manger une le soir.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do you know all of the questions have to do with "en" and not "le, la les, etc"?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Would the second question's answer be: Ils en viennent. ?

OpenStudy (vincent-lyon.fr):

Because when you try to replace the noun by any pronoun in your sentences, only "en" fits in.
