OpenStudy (anonymous):

Predators rarely kill and eat all available prey because: 1)predator and prey species often occupy the same trophic level 2)in an ecosystem prey species often lack protective mechanisms to deter being eaten 3)many predator and prey species have a commensalistic relationship 4)predator species often will switch its prey as one prey species becomes less abundant

OpenStudy (carniel):

Why do you think its 3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think its 1

OpenStudy (freethinker):

read the keyword on 3 - commensalistic relationship. Make sure you know the definition before you pick it

OpenStudy (freethinker):

one benefits, and the other neither benefits or get harmed... prey always get "harmed"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I believe it is one because if a predator eats all of the prey in its trophic level, then it is going to be very hard for the predator to survive.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so either 1 or 3...

OpenStudy (freethinker):

IT CANNOT BE 3!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i highly doubt its 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so 1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i think its one (90% positive)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alrighty thanks peoples

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you are welcome

OpenStudy (freethinker):

you have to understand why it is number 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you want more information, look up trophic levels in your book or online

OpenStudy (freethinker):

predators, except homo sapiens, have no concept of future planning of resources and scarcity. They mostly just eat and eat and eat...
