-4y − 8y = 48

OpenStudy (anonymous):

combine the like terms of -4y and -8y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sschuler, I am not understanding what you are talking about on how to work this out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are you trying to find y?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I presume that is what they are asking for J. Money

OpenStudy (anonymous):

none of the examples in my book show a problem like this one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think y=12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So how would I break this down to work it out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

By moving -8y to the other side which changes to -4y = 8y+48

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it is like the 48 comes from 4.12=48

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah but the only problem is y can also be -12 depending on which number you move to the other side.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry not trying to be a pain but this kind of math is all new to me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's ok I don't mind

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you have any more questions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am not understanding at all how to write this out and work it out sorry :(
