OpenStudy (sepeario):

Could someone please help me with this question?

OpenStudy (sepeario):

OpenStudy (sepeario):

(the center one)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Off Topic question: You get points if you leave something blank? LOL.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1, 3, 11, 13, 21, 23....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Continue that pattern up to 150.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Sepeario

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Azteck , yea, it's a hard exam, so they do that, lol. and i've been trying to think of a simple solution, but I cant, I think you might just have to go one at a time. so you have 1 3 and then you have a big jump, because you can ad (2+2+2+5). On the other end of the spectrum, you can't have 154, or 152. but besides that, I think you're golden, So it would just be those 4 numbers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep. I forgot about that being 30 questions. Yeah you're on the ball.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait but you can't have 154 or 152 anyway....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea, thats what the questoin was asking, how many numbers cant you have. Its 1 and 3 on the left side, and then 154 and 152 on the right, so there are a total of 4 numbers in total :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The maximum score is 150.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

152 and 154 is over 150.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh crap, i mean 149 and 147, my bad >.<

Directrix (directrix):

>>11, 13, 21, 2311, 13, 21, 23 Why are these impossible scores?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you have 1 point? Wher can you get 1 point?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you can't, the 4 solutions you cant get are 1, 3, 147, and 149.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you halve points from blank answers or something. Don't think there's a rule for that. xD

Directrix (directrix):

@Azteck How do you get a score of 143 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You misread the question mate.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You must state the scores that are NOT possible!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

huh. well, what do you konw, there are a couple more on the other end of the spectrum, pellet >.< you can't get 143.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and I said continue the pattern 1, 3, 11, 13 all the way up to 150.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lets see, 144, 145, 147 are good, 149, 148, 146, 143 are not.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And plus what Khushal said about the last two numbers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

however, 11 and 13 both work @Azteck

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think the answer is 6 total. 1, 3, 143, 146, 148, and 149

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Dang, then it's just 1, 3 and the last three numbers you stated.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

last 4** lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, you're correct Khushal.

Directrix (directrix):

>>you can't, the 4 solutions you cant get are 1, 3, 147, and 149. -------------------- Okay, I'm looking at the above as the four scores you cannot get. I claim that is not correct and to offer evidence of that incorrectness, I claim that you cannot get a score of 143 on the test. I don't think I misread that but it is possible.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Directrix, i corrected myself, no worries, thanks for catching my mistake :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ah yep. Apologies go to Directrix. My mistake.

Directrix (directrix):

>>> I think the answer is 6 total. 1, 3, 143, 146, 148, and 149 ----------------------- @Khushal_Shah I agree with those 6 unattainable scores.

Directrix (directrix):

@Azteck No worries. It is fun to discuss these problems.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, I went to fast thinking this question was pretty simple but it turned out the question was more than it seemed.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

went too*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea, I always hate questions like this. However, once you see that a combination of an odd number and an even number gives you most solutions, you realize it's only the numbers at either end that really matter :)

Directrix (directrix):

Problems worthy of attack prove their worth by hitting back. (Piet Hein) Did everyone see this problem: http://openstudy.com/users/sepeario#/updates/516ba960e4b02ec89c5abe99

Thanks @Directrix you've been really helpful to me lately!
