What is the equation of the line that passes through the point (0, 5) and has a negative slope?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that all there is to the question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes it is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't get how I am suppose to work on this question when that is all we have

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it y=-5x-5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well slope intercept form is y=mx+b where m is slope and b is the intercept (the point where the line crosses the y axis)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right I know that, but I am still confused.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well it could be -5x-5 if you wanted it to be. the question isn't specific enough it just asks that the slope be negative but it doesn't say what the slope is. Does that make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes it does. I tend to over think things. thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is this a homework problem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes it is.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then to be on the safe side I would just put -mx+5. But to be honest you could probably just put whatever feels comfortable to you and then explain to your teacher that it was a confusing question and have them explain what he/she was looking for.
