Help with Algebra! any help is appreciated

OpenStudy (anonymous):

have you tried counting?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

What is the number below the first box?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know the pattern is 1x1=1 2x2=4 4x4=16 and 5x5=25

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Put that in the first rectangle below the word STEP

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and 3- 3x3=9

OpenStudy (mertsj):

What is the number below the second box?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

each step is just squared

OpenStudy (mertsj):

What about 3 x 3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am having trouble with this second part

OpenStudy (mertsj):

So what is the problem?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

You can fill in the table and you have discovered that the rule is to square each number

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am having trouble with the second part

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Well, you have the points (1,1), (2,4) (3,9) (4,16) Why don't you graph them?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its just a standard parabola, just put the points on the intersecting x-axis at 1,2,3,4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So that is all I have to do?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then extend it to -1,-2,-3,-4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its just a mirror about the origin

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So I graph negatives too?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

only if you want a whole parabola and not just half of one in this case

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay thank you
