Solve, using the quadratic formula: 2x2 = -4x - 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

set it into ax^2+bx+c=0 and then use the quadratic formula :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ah! I understand that, it's the quadratic formula part that is giving me trouble! :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahh do you know it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes! -b +/- sqrt(b^2 -4ac) over 2a, it's just very difficult for me to put into use!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, well plug all your numbers in.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dont do any of the math just plug them in.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x = -2+/- sqrt(4^2 - 4(2)(5) over 2(2) right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yupp! so then we would have -2+-sqrt16-40/4 reduce more(under the square root to get -24

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but you can't square root 24 without getting a crazy number! and the options aren't decimals :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this question is messed up im sorry D:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's okay! maybe i will ask my teacher!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that would be a good idea! because you would have to have a negative or use an "i" but i dont think you have learned that yet!
