Find the derivative of f(x) = 5x + 9 at x = 2. A)9 b)5 c)0 d)10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im not entirely sure how to do find the derivative

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

the derivative of any linear equation is a constant...and it's always the slope of that line

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

this is because the derivative is the slope of the tangent line but any tangent line to some line is that same line, so it's a bit redundant, but it means that the slope of that line is the derivative

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so would it be 9?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

9 is the y-intercept NOT the slope

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

y = mx+b m = slope b = y-intercept

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh so its 5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jim_thompson5910

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or 10?
