can somebody help tell me what an inverted image is?
Does it mean upside down?
An image in which up and down, as well as left and right, are interchanged; that is, an image that results from rotating the object 180° about a line from the object to the observer; such images are formed by most astronomical telescopes. Also known as reversed image. Source: http://www.answers.com/topic/inverted-image-optics#ixzz2R1mdoV1r
The negative values for image height indicate that the image is an inverted image. As is often the case in physics, a negative or positive sign in front of the numerical value for a physical quantity represents information about direction. In the case of the image height, a negative value always indicates an inverted image. Source: http://www.physicsclassroom.com/Class/refln/u13l3f.cfm
- "Does it mean upside down?" In a word: yes. :-)
Ok, i'm just a bit confused. So when I look in a microscope or telescope, the image I see is upside down?
Normally, yes. However, many telescopes and microscopes have inverting eyepieces available for them which will turn the image rightside up.
God bless all that answered, I understand.
Excellent! And thank you! :-)
