The statement “ice floats on water” is considered science because a) everybody believes that it is true b) it is based on a factual observation c) this is only observed in certain parts of the world d) nobody understands why ice floats I would also like to know why
It's a fact, that ice floats on water. We've observed it. And it's true, every single time. Ice floats on water because ice is LESS DENSE than water. What that means is that the molecules, in ice, are less tightly packed together, than the molecules in water. Since the molecules in ice are further apart from one another, there's more room for air to get in between the molecules. And air is lighter than water. That's why ice floats on top of water.
