I don't understand how to do this. Can someone walk me through it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So........ A-----P-----Q-----B Since PQ is compared to 3 in the first ratio and five in the second I can say that PQ equals fifteen.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then.....2/3 of 15 is equal to AP, so AP equals ten.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

My question is....how do I get QB?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

see below :- AP/PQ = 2/3 => AP = PQ.2/3 PQ/QB = 5/8 => QB = PQ.8/5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So I should multiply 8/5 by 15 to get QB?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

AP : PQ : QB PQ.2/3 : PQ : PQ.8/5 2/3 : 1 : 8/5 10 : 15 : 24

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

thats right, it became simple above cuz we converted everything to PQ.. and cancelled them..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Why do we multiply by 8/5 instead of 5/8?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

i dont get u.. u asking that q for below step ? PQ/QB = 5/8 => QB = PQ.8/5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

you understand below, how we converted the given PQ:QB = 5:8 to below proportion ? PQ/QB = 5/8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes. Now you just switch it?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

good. see if u can follow below : \(\frac{PQ}{QB} = \frac{5}{8}\) cross multiply PQ. 8 = QB . 5 divide 5 PQ . 8/5 = QB

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh...okay i got it. Thank you!

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

wonderful ! yw !
