How can a cell carry information?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Cells use oxygen to harvest the energy stored in molecules like sugars and fats. Red blood cells use a protein called hemoglobin to carry oxygen to all the cells of the body. Hemoglobin is actually made of four separate protein strands; each one surrounds a central, iron-containing molecule. The hemoglobin group carries the oxygen molecule; each molecule is made up of two atoms of oxygen bonded together.
