Anna waters her plants with salty water to help them grow better. Is her thinking correct?

thomaster (thomaster):

No. The soil where the plant lives in will contain a higher concentration of salt then the cells of the plant has. because of this, water will move out of the sells to try equalize the concentration difference and the roots of the plant will die and the plant will die too. This is not the case with all plants. some plants can tolerate a high amount of salt in the soil because their cells already contain a high salt concentration to when watering with salt water, the water wouldn't go out of the cells.
