What about a mechanics group? I could definitely use some help working on cars and i have some skills that i could help people learn from.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah it would be nice :)

Especially when it comes down to torque settings, looking online only gives you manufacturer, but when you are building a car different from manf. you want the proper torque settings. I am terrible with torque settings and could use help sometimes

OpenStudy (amistre64):

righty tighty, lefty loosey; unless its one of those foriegn cars ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But you need the correct torque settings...need to know how far to turn them...too far it creates to much torque too short and you do not have enough

OpenStudy (amistre64):

torque is not a measure of "how far to turn" something; it is a measure of how much force to apply.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know...i am talking about certain bolts require a certain distance to be put in for the torque to measure correctly

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if you know the distance of the "wrench" and the setting (Force) for the bolt; torque is just Force times distance.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

a certain distance, so like trying to torque with an extension eh

OpenStudy (amistre64):

or rather, the distance that the bolt gets inserted relates to the amount of torque applied

OpenStudy (amistre64):

those distances can get mironial ....
