OpenStudy (anonymous):

(k-10) ÷ (2k-20)

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

This is easier to see in a fraction: \[\frac{k-10}{2k-20}\]If you factored a 2 out of the bottom, what would it become?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Another way is to substitute (k-10) for x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-1/2?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Not quite \[\frac{k-10}{2(k-10)}\] Then they cancel so: \[\frac{1}{2}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well isn't it that the 2k is negative and the 20 is positive?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh wait sorry the problem i wrote was different from the one in my book

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

the -10 is negative. OH! that would make a differenc.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you're correct though, thank you so much!

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Well lets see the one in your book! If you still need help with it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

problem was originally k-10/20k -2k. being an 8th grader in algebra I is hard :/

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

We were all there once. Hmmm.... that one has more to it. \[\frac{k-10}{20k -2k}\]

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

If no mistyping this time... it is just some subtraction. \[\frac{k-10}{18k}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am in Algebra I in school but doing harder math at home.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

About precalc to easy calc level

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

We all do different subjects at different speeds. There are some people that go through all this reall fast, and other that need more time. That is one problem with school, they expect everybody to learn everything at the same speed. I was good in math and decent in history, but had problems elsewhere.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have problems in History :( I am horrible at history am afraid of test coming up :( OH NO FORGOT TO STUDY

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Perhaps you need less time in the extra math and more in the history! LOL. Well, that one depends a lot on the teacher and how they test. I hate it when they want names and dates. I like it when they just want the important stuff, like the whys and the whats. But when and who kill me.

OpenStudy (dwelsher):

k-10/2(k-10),cancel out the k-10=1/2

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

@dwelsher It was the wrong problem, by we got the process worked out and he got it already. Hehe
