an object is moving in a plane, and its position at time t is given by x=3cos(2t) y=4cos(3t) a)what is the position of the particle at t=pi/4? (point P) b) what is the velocity of the particle at t=(pi/4) c) what is the slope of the tan line to the track of the particle at the point P (point found in part a). I took the derivative to the x and y values set them equal to 0 but not sure what to do from there
Why did you set them equal to 0???
not sure.. bc that would give me a max/min which i dont need
so looking at it now. is the derivative the x,y that tells the position of the particle?
No.... the expressions above are parametric forms of ''displacements'' along x and y already... For velocity you would need the derivative...
You getting it??? @huskerfan12 ???
so take the derivative of the x and y. and then ?
first part:)) for position just set t=pi/4 in x and y ... Sec part))take der. of 'x' w.r.t 't' and 'y' w.r.t 't' separately and you will get components of velocity along x and y...
i thought for the second part you have to take the sqrt of y'^2 +x'^2?
and so at pi/4 the postition is (0,0)?
Not getting u... You won't be getting y-coordinate 0... |dw:1367088077018:dw|
