jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
looking at choice A, which is (-3, 2)
this means x = -3 and y = 2
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
so plugging this point in means that you plug in x = -3 and y = 2 to get
y > x + 5
2 > -3 + 5
2 > 2
since that last inequality is FALSE, this means that (-3, 2) is NOT a solution to the inequality
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
so choice A is eliminated
do the same for the other choices

i think its choice c is that correct??
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
let's check it out

y > x + 5
5 > 3 + 5 ... plug in (3, 5) ...ie plug in x = 3 and y = 5
5 > 8
is that true?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i think so?

@jim_thompson5910
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
5 is greater than 8? you sure?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
oh no its not true!!

@jim_thompson5910
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
ok so which of the two is it
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
plug in each point and see which inequalities are true or false
OpenStudy (anonymous):
B???? @jim_thompson5910

y > x + 5
-3 > 0 + 5 ... plug in (0, -3)
-3 > 5
is that true?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yep @jim_thompson5910
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so its B then right?? @jim_thompson5910
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
no -3 is not larger than 5
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
-3 > 5 is false
