Can someone please help me????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Water weighs about 63 pounds per cubic foot, and a cubic foot of water is about 7.5 gallons. A king-size waterbed mattress measures 5.5 feet by 8 inches deep. To the nearest pound, how much does the water in this waterbed weigh??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@abc123! @Mertsj @SnuggieLad @RadEn @luckythebest

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Find the volume of the mattress

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k hold on plz

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Mertsj isn't it so that for volume we need 3 dimensions; while we have only two?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would the volume be 286 ?? @Mertsj

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Be sure to change the 8 inches to 2/3 feet..

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Also...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok then it would be...

OpenStudy (mertsj):

the dimensions of the mattress are unclear. Is it 5.5 feet by 5.5 feet y 8 inches?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

23.83333

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh shoot...

OpenStudy (mertsj):

So just to clarify...the bed is 5.5 by 6.5 by 2/3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol i messed up in the question.. its 5.5 feet by 6.5 feet by 8 inches deep SRY!!

OpenStudy (mertsj):

So the volume is...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

23.8

OpenStudy (mertsj):

cubic feet. Yes. I agree. How much does each cubic foot of water weigh?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Water weighs about 63 pounds per cubic foot, and a cubic foot of water is about 7.5 gallons.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Each cubic foot of water weighs 63 pounds and the mattress contains 23.8 cubic feet. How much does all that water weigh?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk how do i find tht out??

OpenStudy (mertsj):

We have to teach you this concept. Do you ever babysit?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

If you did babysit, how much would you charge for 1 hour?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk i never babysat...

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Let's say you would charge $5 per hour, ok?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kk?? where is this going??

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Teaching you the key concept that you need for this problem.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

If you babysat for 7 hours, you would get 7(5) dollars. Do you understand that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yurp

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Another example: 1 cup is 8 ounces so 15 cups would be 15(8) ounces. Agree?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, can we get to the point??

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Here it is: 1 cubic foot of water weighs 63 pounds so 23.8 cubic feet of water weighs???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

brb i have to be afk for a couple minutes, sorry would it be 63 * 23.8 ?? brb

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Mertsj

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@luckythebest can u help me??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes what you told is correct. if 1 cu. ft = 63 then 23.8 = 63 x 23.8 :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So what would the answer be to the question?? @luckythebest @Mertsj

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@luckythebest @Mertsj Please don't leave me hanging!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1499.4 pound

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Directions said round to the nearest pound.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then 1499.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok then Thanks Guys!!
