The figure below shows the top view of a circular room with a circular stage. The diameter of the stage is 24 feet. The shaded portion represents the seating for the audience around the stage.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

[Use π =22 over 7] What is the area of the seating portion?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I believe it is C

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

The attachment does not have a type, so not sure what to open it with.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh one second

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does it work now

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Nope. What is it supposed to be, document, image?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Ah ha. Guessed based on size. Image.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah its an image

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yayy i did it

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

OK, if you know the area of an arc formula, this will be something along those lines. You take the arc of the outer and subtract the arc of the inner.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i know but i kept doing that and id be very close to the answer but not quite there.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would C be correct

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

If you subtract the circle, it will be icorrect because you are subtracting more than is taken away....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so i first get the area of the big circle 7857,14

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I then get the area of the small circle which is 452

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dont i then multiply both by 65/360 and then subtract the product from the original numbers and then subtrat difference of bith of those

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Or just use the arc... 360-65=295

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

I get \(1888\pi\), so 5931.33 using pi.. or no much different the other way. Hern.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah but that isnt one of my choices. hmmmm

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Let me check my small circle...

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Oops. Yah, hit a wrong kkey.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

I did not get c. let me show my thinking.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

|dw:1367198919998:dw| AH HA. I forgot to take the percentage when I fixed for my miss hit. Probably will get c. But gonna finish this anyhow.
