can someone please help me with this math question
where is the math question?
so I have to solve 41+23 in base five and I did that and got 114 first of all is this right?? then I am asked to show the addition using base 5 blocks and I tried that but the picture just doesnt add up to my math
.... help me this is due tomarrrow
is 41 and 23 in base five aswell
yes
you can convert to 41 and 23 to decimal and add them up in decimal then convert to base five not sure what they want the result in
just in base five I got the answer 114 is that correct
I need help figureing it our in base 5 BLOCKS
flats longs and units
yes, 41+23 = 114 in base 5 show that pic which doesn't add up, i'll try to find the error
okay so I have 1 flat 3 longs and 1 unit to make 25+15+1= 41 is this right so far?
then I have 4 longs and 3 units to make 23
yes.
both correct
oaky so when I add up how do I make the picture
4 flats 1 long and 4 units ??? to make 114
....
ok, so u nits and 1 units makes 4 units now 3 longs +4 longs will combine to 1 flat and and 2 longs.... right ?
**so, 3 units and...
how u got 1 long ?
I am confused what are u saying is the answer
If i have to flats and 3 longs and 4 units then I will have 69 in total
ok, let me try again so 3 units and 1 units makes 4 units----> last 4 now 3 longs +4 longs will combine to 1 flat(50) and and 2 longs(10)--->1 (for that 10 long ) one flat from here, combines with one flat previously to give 100---->1 in hundred's place
oaky so are u saying that in the base 5 blaocks the flat is 50
So If i get this right the answer is....
2 flats two longs and 4 units
oh wait, its not fifty, its 25 5 longs (5*5) make 1 flat (25)
exactly
2 flats two longs and 4 units is absolutely correct
well no cuz that is 50 + 10 + 4 the answer is 114 not 64
the answer is 114 in base 5 and 64 in base 10
how ??
you are confusing between bases ? decimal addition 41+23 = 64 base 5 : 41+23 = 114
I get the addition part but how does it work in blocks
i think of it as 25 and 25 and 5 and 5 and 4 ???
yes, those 25 and 25 become 50 ---> 1 (leftmost 1) 5 and 5 become 10 ---->1(middle 1) 4 (rightmost 4)
so 114
how??????????
3 units and 1 units makes 4 units----> last 4 now 3 longs +4 longs will combine to 1 flat(25) and and 2 longs(10)--->1 (for that 10 long ) one flat from here, combines with one flat previously to give 50---->1 in hundred's place i think you have doubts on when to put 1 or 2 in middle and leftmost place. for middle, if there are n*10, you put n like if there were 30, you would have put 3 for leftmost digit, if there are n*50, you put n like if it were 100, you would put 4
thats why for 50 i put 1 in leftmost part and for 10 i put 1 in middle giving 114
oaky so one more time just to make sure it is RIGHT
for 41= 1 flat 3 longs and 1 unit and for 23= 4 longs and 3 units regrouping and getting a total of
2 flats 2 longs and 4 units making 114
am I right ??
yes, correct :)
oaky that is great thank you so much you are good at this are u a math teacher??
wait, let me revise the whole thing, i think i messed up.
and i am also a student.
omg what is it
nopes, we are correct :)
i used online tools to verify and got it correct....
are u sure please I need to get these points lol and what tools are u using
i used wolframalpha.com and yes, now i am sure.
oaky that is great thank you so much
welcome ^_^
