OpenStudy (bakonloverk):

can someone explain how to find the slope?

OpenStudy (stamp):

slope is a ratio. a ratio is a fraction.

OpenStudy (stamp):

slop is a ratio (fraction) of two things: vertical movement y and horizontal movement x

So if you have a line in the x,y coordinates, its slope is the fraction (ratio) formed by its y change to its x change, rise / run, up / across

OpenStudy (bakonloverk):

but how would i find the slope of -3x=3y+ 9

OpenStudy (stamp):

Thats a line equation. Line equations let you plug in a value (x or y) and receive a point (x, y). Two points make a line is fundamental. Let's find two points.

OpenStudy (stamp):

-3x=3y+ 9 x = 0 @ (0, y) ---> -3(0) = 3y + 9 --> 0 = 3y + 9 -> y = -3 Point 1 (0, -3) x = 1 @ (1, y) ---> -3(1) = 3y + 9 --> -3 = 3y + 9 -> y = -4 Point 2 (1, -4)
