State if the three side lengths form a right triangle - 2cm, 2√ 15cm, and 8cm. How do I figure this out? I know the Pythagorean Theorem is used.

OpenStudy (reemii):

if it is a right triangle, can you spot the length of the hypothenuse ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Please elaborate.

OpenStudy (reemii):

can the hypothenuse be the side of lengt 2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, because it's not the longest side, correct?

OpenStudy (reemii):

that's it, now isn't it possible to apply the theorem and decide whether it is a right triangle or not if the Pythagorean formula works

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have 8^2= 2^2 + (2√ 15)^2, correct?

OpenStudy (reemii):

yes so the frmula works, i think we can conclude that triangle is a right triangle.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not necessarily, the equation has to come out equivalent.
